What do you do when you need a tool but all of the option on the market won't cut it (pun intended) - you build your own.

The RB-12 was designed by Ed at Red Beard Knife & Tool when a buddy of his needed a knife that would help him and his sons navigate the marshes, swamps, and backwaters of Louisiana.

They had tried a few other machetes and "survival" knives but all of them fell short.

When Ed was given the task of creating a work knife that his buddy could entrust the well being of him and his sons with he went right to work drawing inspiration from various sugar cane knives and machetes.

After a few iterations, the RB-12 was born and it quickly proved itself in the field - outperforming every other machete his buddy had at his disposal.

This beast of a knife is made from .095" thick 1084 steel, has a cutting edge that measures in at 12" and carries scales made out of Patagonian Rosewood which is none for its resistance to wear and rot.

When Ed showed us a brush knife from an earlier run of RB-12's we immediately asked if there was any way he'd make some for us to offer to the Whiskey River Community and Ed, being the great guy he is said "Yes."

This is your opportunity to add one of these workhorses to your survival tool kit.

Whether you're a trapper, hunter, bush crafter, or just an outdoor enthusiast - this knife will find a permanent place in your kit after just a few uses.

However, Ed is a great guy and a talented maker but he's only one guy.

Every knife that is made is made by his hands and passes his quality control - he's not some big company just pushing out whatever junk they can to hit a quota.

Ed has said that he's open to talking about a second run depending on how this one goes but I would not let that affect your buying decision today - if you know you want one of these Brush Knives in your survival kit, today's the day to take action.

My RB-12 Brush Knife from Red Bird

I like this knife. It came well packaged and has performed beautifully. The knife needed a tune up. The full tang and handle scales didn’t match perfectly but a few strokes of a file cleaned that up. I made a full length leather sheath that covers the entire blade. Big improvement there. There was no lanyard hole…..which was problematic for me. After carefull consideration, I removed the Loveless bolt at the end of the handle and made a lanyard hole. It works better for me now. The carbon steel blade is beginning to stain with use and I’m good with that. Overall brilliant design and the blade sharpens easily. Very happy….. especially after the tune up. Should be with me the rest of my life.
