What is the difference between Grade A handles and Grade B handles?

This handle was Inspired by the old 70's era fallers/miners handle I dug out of a barn a few years back. Those handles sold so fast and the customers that were lucky enough to snag an original really enjoy them.
So we decided to bring them back as part of our heritage line of axes.

Nice straight 24 inch handle for a boys axe. This handle requires zero thinning. The grain was perfect and has a few streaks of heart wood in it. This is exactly what I wanted for my vintage Wetterlings head. I finished it with pine tar /BLO mixture. My only complaint is that the provided wedge could have been a 1/16 inch wider.
The quality of the wood in the handle was very good. However I was pretty disappointed that the handle was very thin. The worst part was the head of the handle was very thin too and I ended up with a small gap in the front sides of the eye. The head of the handle was smaller than the listed dimensions. I would have liked a little more material to work with. You can always take more off but you can’t add wood back.
Eye was cut heavy on one side and very thin on the other which led to the axe initially hanging crooked, easily fixed but left with very thin wood on one side. Shoulder was extremely far down which would have been fine if the handle was left long to cut the excess off with a finished length of 24”. All in all still a beautiful handle with perfect grain orientation and incredible shape. Handle was nice and thin and felt great in the hand. Would still buy again.
