Whiskey River Premium Heritage 32C - 32" Handle

What is the difference between Grade A handles and Grade B handles?

This is the bigger brother of our popular 30C!

I bought an old, old, old steel pattern from a fellow axe junkie on eBay because I fell in love with the shape and that pattern was used to turn the 30C and for inspiration for the 28C and now the 32C.

There is something so awesome about getting a forgotten piece of history back into working hands. This pattern was made when people depended on their tools for survival so when it came to designing them they were not kidding around.

This curvy hickory single bit pattern is designed for axes that have a bit of a taller eye (Connies, Jerseys, etc...) but I'm sure it would feel comfortable on any axe you can fit it into.

The edges of the swell also curve slightly upward to give you more grip when swinging.

This is one of those handles that looks fine and dandy in pictures but you don't truly understand how awesome it is until you get to work with it.

Top of the Eye (eye is tapered): 2 1/2" X 15/16"

Shoulder:  2 7/8" X 1"

Axe handles

I’m unable to review the 2 handles I purchased while on holidays in the USA.
One of my hobbies, collect, restore, rehandle axes.
I’m from Australia so mainly axes from here from the days before chainsaws took over.
Anyway I bought them with what I thought was enough time for postage. I paid the most for postage that was offered.
It took a day longer to leave whisky river that I expected.
Postage took far too long, expected USA to be better. USPS.
Now handles are in Florida, I’m home in Australia. Was really looking forward to giving a positive review of the handles.
Maybe on your online videos you could drop comments on realistic USPS postage times.
If and when I get them I’ll give a review.

Top Quality Handle

I like that it was made from thicker stock (1-3/4") rather than just board stock like most manufacturers. It makes the fawn's foot much more comfortable and effective. There was a time when handles like this were common in hardware stores. Now you pay a premium for good handles like these. It is worth it.

Grade A Hickory Ax Handle

(25 Dec 2025) This is a follow-up to my review posted on 21 Nov. I wanted to add photos of the finished ax. The ridges inside the eye of the bit made this just a little more challenging to fit, but it really turned out well. I love this handle - excellent quality and a perfect handle for this Kelly Perfect bit! Merry Christmas!
