Whiskey River Premium Heritage 20PICK - 20" Pickaroon Handle

I used the new handle on a relatively new Warwood Perfect Axe, which cam with a very thick 28" handle, more than half of which was softer sapwood. The handle was too awkward to use one handed. Upon taking it apart I found the wedge only about 1/4" inside the axe eye, the bottom of the eye had gaps, there was glue between the handle and eye, but not on the wedge. I was able to pull out the metal and wood wedges and slip the head off. The 20" new handle is a great length for this boy's axe sized head. Easy to one hand and plenty of length to get both hands working together. I kept maximum length of the 20" handle, and used a walnut wedge. I think the handle is very hard and strong hickory because the walnut wedge conformed to the available space very well, without also conforming the hickory. I put wood glue on the wedge only, so I could avoid also using a metal wedge. Then coated the handle using very old tongue oil, similar to linseed oil. This time the handle to head connection is very strong. I am delighted with the results. I highly recommend Whisky River Heritage handles.

Extremely nice handle. I'm going to stain it, polish the pickaroon to a mirror finish, make a leather sheath and call it my racing pickaroon. The goal is to make my friend who owns a tree service jealous. Stay tuned.

I had an old pickaroon head with the wrong handle on it . I put the 20pick on it and it’s awesome. Love the palm swell

Amazing handle for hatchets or picks. Feels amazing to use, and has a great palm swell. Its definitely not going to slip out of your hand.
