The Council Tool Co Velvicut Hudson Bay axe is workhorse around the camp or homestead. This 19" American hickory handle carries atop it a 2 lbs chunk of drop forged 5160 steel.
5160 steel is a tough and robust modern steel for bushcrafting and camp work that takes an edge fairly easily and keeps that edge for a long time. In my personal experience with this steel it is also surprisingly rust resistant (although as always we recommend taking good care of your tools.)
The Hudson Bay axe pattern is a very old pattern that is believed to have originated in northern Spain but it was quickly adopted by the American fur traders back in the day due to its superb balance and long cutting edge.
This axe comes with a full leather sheath to keep the edge and the tool protected!
